Research background: Epitalon (Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly) is a synthetic tetrapeptide modelled on epithalamin, a pineal gland extract studied since the 1980s by Khavinson and colleagues at the St Petersburg Institute of Bioregulation and Gerontology. Research has focused on its proposed role in telomerase (hTERT) activation and telomere length in cultured cell models, alongside effects on pineal melatonin regulation. Human clinical data remains limited and concentrated in a small number of research groups.
