No independent testing
The biggest red flag is the absence of credible, independent analysis. If a supplier offers no COA, or only a supplier-issued one with no named laboratory, you have no verifiable evidence of what you’re buying. “Trust us, it’s pure” is not a testing policy.
No company transparency
A legitimate operation is easy to identify. Look for a registered company number, a real registered address, and ICO registration for data handling. If you can’t find out who you’re actually buying from, that opacity tells you something. Anonymous sellers leave you with no recourse if something goes wrong.
Inadequate packaging
Lyophilised (freeze-dried) peptides are chemically stable at room temperature, so cold-chain shipping is not required for correctly prepared products. What matters is physical protection: a supplier shipping in a plain envelope with no padding or rigid outer packaging is risking damage to the vial in transit. Secure, damage-resistant packaging — such as bubble-wrap padding inside a rigid outer box — combined with tracked courier dispatch, is a marker of a serious operation. (Temperature-controlled shipping may genuinely be necessary for liquid, reconstituted, or specially formulated peptide products, but this is not the norm for standard lyophilised research peptides.)
Health claims and dosing guidance
This one is counter-intuitive but important: a research-chemical supplier making health claims, listing benefits, or providing dosing instructions is a red flag, not a green one. Research compounds are sold for research use only. A seller blurring that line is either unaware of — or ignoring — the regulatory framework, which raises questions about how carefully they run the rest of their business.
A simple due-diligence checklist
- Independent, batch-matched COAs (identity and purity)?
- Registered company with a visible address and number?
- ICO registration and a clear privacy policy?
- Secure, damage-resistant packaging and tracked dispatch?
